Senior Litigation Attorney
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Senior Litigation Attorney – A position to change the world for the millions of American families who have a child with a disability.
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Federal Litigation and/or Director of Special Education Practice for a non-profit civil rights advocacy and law firm, the Senior Litigation Attorney’s duties will include legal advocacy across various jurisdictions throughout the United States but will focus primarily on writing-intensive assignments in the Federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals, as well as advocacy in the administrative hearing process.. Reports to: Director of Federal Litigation and/or Director of Special Education Practice
Location: New York City, New York (full-time, in-person)
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities will be research and writing – no arithmetic.
- The Senior Litigation Attorney will primarily be responsible for drafting and reviewing pleadings, discovery demands, motion papers, Appellate Briefs, legal memoranda, and position papers – including but not limited to Complaints, Interrogatories, Discovery/Document Demands, Orders to Show Cause, motions for Preliminary Injunctions, Summary Judgment Motions and other related Termination Motions, and Appellate Briefs.
- Responsibilities will also include Court appearances in local jurisdiction, oral argument in District Courts and/or Courts of Appeals, and/or preparing staff attorneys for the same.
- Responsibilities will also include appearances in special education administrative hearings.
Required Qualifications
- Admission to New York State Bar and SDNY/EDNY.
- At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible United States litigation experience, including experience in SDNY/EDNY.
- Exceptional legal writing and legal research skills.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand provisions of applicable laws and regulations.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
- MUST HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!.
NOTE: Selected candidates must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing as well as admitted to practice in SDNY and/or EDNY for the duration of their employment

Desirable Qualifications
- Admitted to practice in other Federal District Court(s) and Court of Appeal(s) (2nd Circuit – preferred).
- Admission to New Jersey, Connecticut or other State Bar(s).
- Substantial legal writing experience at both the Trial and Appellate Court levels.
- Experience in Civil Rights Litigation.
- Experience in ADA; IDEA; special education Law, and other related rules, regulations and laws.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm (full-time, in-person)
