Federal Civil Rights Attorney (Remote)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Federal Civil Rights Staff Attorney (Remote) – A position to change the world for the millions of American families who have a child with a disability.
Position Summary: Under the supervision of our Director of Federal Litigation, the Remote Staff Attorney’s duties will include legal advocacy in various Federal Jurisdictions throughout the United States but will focus primarily on writing-intensive assignments in the Federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals. An example of our work is the only national class action lawsuit on behalf of over 7 million special education students requiring schools to reopen during COVID-19, see www.ReOpenClass.com for details.

Location: REMOTE
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities will be research and writing – no arithmetic.
- The Remote Staff Attorney will primarily be responsible for drafting pleadings, discovery demands, motion papers,
- Appellate Briefs, legal memoranda, and position papers – including but not limited to Complaints, Interrogatories,
- Discovery/Document Demands, Orders to Show Cause, motions for Preliminary Injunctions, Summary Judgment
- Motions and other related Termination Motions, and
- Appellate Briefs.
- Responsibilities may include: Court appearances in local jurisdiction, oral arguments in District Courts and/or Courts of Appeals, and/or preparing staff attorneys for the same.
Required Qualifications
- Admission to local State Bar, Federal District Court, and Court of Appeals
- At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible legal experience in the United States, with at least seven (7) years of
- Federal Civil Practice experience drafting Pleadings,
- Interrogatories, Discovery/Document Demands, Motions,
- Opposition to Motions, Declarations, Summary Judgment and other Related Termination Motions, and Appellate Briefs
- Exceptional legal writing and legal research skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to understand provisions of applicable laws and regulations
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision
- Journal experience
- MUST HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!
- NOTE: Selected candidates must remain members of their
- State Bar in good standing for their employment duration.
Desirable Qualifications
- Substantial legal writing experience at both the Trial and Appellate Court levels
- Experience in Civil Rights Litigation,
- Experience in Americans with Disabilities Act; Individuals with
- Disabilities Education Law;
- Special Education Law, and other related provisions of law.
Salary: Competitive (up to $125,000 per year, depending on experience) + benefits (Dental
insurance, Health insurance and Paid time off).
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm (full-time, REMOTE)
