ERIN MCGUINNESS, ESQ.

Erin G. McGuinness is an experienced civil rights attorney dedicated to advancing the rights of children and adults with disabilities. She is admitted to practice in New York State and the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of New York and brings over a decade of experience litigating in state and federal courts.

Prior to joining Liberty & Freedom Legal Group, Erin served as a Staff Attorney at Disability Rights New York, where she litigated complex impact cases on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her work included federal class actions focused on de-institutionalization, representing children in special education due process proceedings and appeals, and advocating to restore the rights of adults in guardianship termination cases. She also conducted abuse and neglect investigations under federal Protection and Advocacy authority.

Earlier in her career, Erin worked as a Senior Policy Analyst at Children’s Rights, Inc., contributing to nationwide class action litigation involving child welfare, juvenile justice, education, and healthcare systems. She partnered with state and local agencies to implement systemic reform and promote best practices for youth-serving systems. Erin began her legal career representing parents in family court and has additional experience in civil litigation and estate planning, including supplemental needs trusts.

Erin earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration from Syracuse University, where she received multiple honors for advocacy, ethics, and public service. She remains committed to using the law as a tool for dignity, equity, and meaningful inclusion, and to helping families navigate complex systems with confidence.
